Does this season undo the last few seasons? Is everything right with the universe again? We won’t know until next season, and since that isn’t happening…All in all “The End is at Hand” brings a better ending to a series than sci-fi has been giving fans lately. Every question you wanted to be answered is dealt with. Still, if you were a fan you might find yourself feeling a little empty at the end.

A “Brand New Day” Before The End Of Agents Of SHIELD
All season, the Agents of SHIELD have been at a pretty significant disadvantage. Sybil the Predictor, a Chronicom that can see all of time and it’s infinite variances, has been informing those working against SHIELD what they’ll do. Sure, they’ve had moments that Sybil didn’t notice, but for the most part, the conclusion was known before the start. Of course, our team will never get up despite the odds are moving increasingly toward them losing everything.

As it turns out, Jiaying wasn’t even what Malick and friends were after. They were looking to grab Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), presumably to try to find Fitz (Iain De Caestecker). Ah, Fitz, who’s has an entire season stolen from him. Granted it’s behind the scenes reasons (De Caestecker has another acting job) why we have yet to see Fitz, but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing. ‘SHIELD’ is practically the story of how Fitz and Simmons reunite, though, just as it’s become a story of how Coulson will die. We know it will happen, and we hope it’s been worth the wait.

Daisy (Chloe Bennet) is our lucky looper. The Zephyr has made its way into a time storm and can’t get out. Each loop brings it closer and closer to demise. The only people who can fix the situation are Enoch (Joel Stoffer) and Jemma (Elizabeth Henstridge). They have it hard-wired not to help so as not to give away Fitz’s location though. Meanwhile, Coulson (Clark Gregg) can retain his memory and coaches Daisy on how to get closer to solving the problem.

As always, with Agents of SHIELD, “After, Before” likes to take the stakes and not only raise them but also throw them up in the air and see who they might impale on the way down.

“The Totally Excellent Adventures of Mack and the D” is a wild ride through bad 80’s movies. If you don’t believe me, you might want to give the 1986 film “Chopping Mall” a view. It is straight-up terrible in ways that beg for watching. Preferably with friends and with alcohol. Fortunately, “Agents of SHIELD” uses […]

After a discussion with Sybil the Predictor (Tamara Taylor) that is more about Coulson’s speech than learning much, Coulson blows up the Chronicom hunter forms that were about to be awakened. Good news for the team, but we also apparently lose Coulson in the explosion. We did have a whole long conversation about him being able to come back from the dead, so I don’t think he’s gone, but it still makes for a good midseason rattle ’em up. Adapt or die indeed.

Ok, I’ll admit that I needed to stop and look up what “a trout in the milk” meant. I’d never heard the phrase before and thought maybe it was some Marvel reference I was missing. If you didn’t know, it turns out to be a term for strong circumstantial evidence.

What is an LMD like you doing in a slightly altered past like this? “Out of the Past” is the film-noir tribute that the producers of “Agents of SHIELD” have probably wanted to do since one of them first mentioned time-travel. Fortunately, it’s a fun roll through the genre. It also packs a little more into the look at racism and sexism that “Alien Commies From The Future!” started. The future also gets a gift from the past that is pretty spoilery, so we’ll talk about that later.

Something feels unfinished in 1955, though. Maybe it’s just that things were relatively easy or that we didn’t learn anything new this week. I just have a feeling the big reveal of this era is yet to come.
